The Superintendent then advised us to send in a written petition through the Gurdwara authorities.
We
replied that we would do no such thing. Government takes our earnings and we, therefore, insist that Government should now make provision for us.
The Superintendent of Police promised to give us a definite answer on the morrow. He advised us to make enquiries from the various shipping agents at Hong Kong. If any Company was willing to convey all of us together to India, he expressed his willingness to grant us the necessary passports.
We returned, Prithi Singh and Rur Bingh were immediately despatched to make enquiries from the shipping agents. They returned in the evening, with the news that a Japanese company was willing to undertake the contract, provided we bought not less than 100 tickets. The second
condition, imposed by the company, was that we should
maintain peace throughout the journey. With the acceptance
of these conditions by us, the company undertook to get
the necessary sanction of the Hong Kong Government.
On this we resolved to visit the German Consul once
again. We, viz:-

took the train and arrived the following morning at Canton.
