My dear Cabby,

Since I wrote to you on the 19th Ulto. I have received your letters of the 16th, 22nd, 23rd and 28th ulto. and of the 3rd, 5th and 22nd inst.

You may have wondered why I have not written you for about a month in regard to the

Texas business.

However, whilst the matter was not decided, it appeared useless to us to further discuss it, once you had made up your mind to give up the A. R. alternative.

I now enclose copies of our two letters to the Texas Co. dated the 16th and 23rd inst. respectively. As you will observe, the matter was still undecided on the 16th, and, strange to say, we received on the 19th not only a telegram from the Governor, but at the very same hour a cable from the Texas Co., asking us to accept a new Cargo, which, had we not then had the Hongkong cable, we would have had to refuse. This refusal would have given the Texas Co. a right however to cancel the contract particularly in view of the fact that by a letter dated the 11th inst. which we received a few days after their just mentioned cable, they had after "careful consideration of the

gentlemen here" meaning the Directors of the Texas Co., accepted our proposal, or as they write: "In other words, we, the Texas Co., will carry on the Kerosene business in South China with Sanders Rehders & Co. Limited, assuming of course that you will make the necessary arrangements as to the handling
