Bradford

February 15th 1915

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your favour of the 10th inst, and note that you are informed that I have given a Power of Attorney for use in the Colony of Hongkong which represents that I am sole owner of the business of Bume & Reif, including its Branches at Hamburg and other places.

In reply to this I beg to say that it is correct,

and the explanation I can give is that immediately on the outbreak of War I consulted my Solicitors (Messrs. Wade, Tetley, Wade & Scott, 8, Piccadilly, Bradford) as to the status of our firm and the possible consequences, and asked their advice as to the steps

if any

which ought to be taken to ensure the amooth working of the Bradford business and its dependent Franches.

As a

It was conveived that by the outbreak of War the partnership between the members of the firm could not lawfully continus, and by the nature of conditions prevailing it would in any case be impracticable and had to come to an end. matter of fact I have treated the partnership ae at an end and regarded all business pending at the outbreak of War as carried out on behalf of the firm in the winding up of the business on that date, and have treated all business subsequently transacted As done by me entirely on my own responsibility. This was explained in my Solicitors' letter to you of October ist. last.
