NEEDLES. The bulk of the imports comes from Germany

through the German houses of Reuter Brockelmann and Co.

and Melchers and Co. They are packed in envelopes of

tin foil and blue paper containing 25 needles; 10 envelopes

in a bundle; 40 bundles in a tin; 25 tins in a case (tin lined).

WOOLLEN BLANKETS.

Although these are mostly imported

S

from England in the well known scarlet qualities with

black stripes, there are many German blankets on the mar-

ket, which are bought by the better classes. They are two

coloured with black stripes and a broad (14" to 2") Silk

$ Ribbon. The price is about 3/3 to 4/9 per lb. c.i.f. Hongkong.

BERLIN WOOL The Japanese product appears to be grad- ually supplanting that from Germany which cannot compete in price. Woollen comforters of bright hue were formerly imported from Germany but are now made locally of Berlin wool imported from Germany and Japan.

LLAMABRAID (WOOLLEN). The sizes sold are 61,57 and 33,

mostly 61. The business has successively passed from German to Austrian and now to an Italian manufacturer, who is represented by the Italian firm of G. Lartini. LAMPWICKS These are imported from England and Germany, but a cheap quality recently introduced from Japan seems likely to dominate the market in future.

UMBRELLA FRALES.

These are imported in large quantities from Germany. There is no reason why British makes should not predominate as they have been found to compete success- fully.

KNAMELLED IRONWARE.

This comes chiefly from Austria and

the business is in the hands of Jebsen and Co, Sander Wieler

and Co and the Austrian firm of Eume and Reif.

The basins are 12", 134" and 15" and mostly two colour- ed, dark blue and white, light blue and white, pink and white.
