It will be seen that the result of Messrs. Carlo-
witz and Company's import business for the year 1913 was a net profit of $101,556.99 on a turnover $1,413,326.90, or
7.18 per cent of the turnover. Leaving out Government business altogether, in which British firms were never able to compete owing to the peculiar methods of German firms, Messrs Carlo-
witz and Co. on the rest of their import business made a pro-
fit of $27,634.85 on a tunrover of $745,814.87 or 3.70 per
cent of the turnover.
