I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you the accompanying copy of a correspondence with the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company regarding shipments of Gold from Hongkong to Amsterdam.

Sir E. Grey proposes subject to the concurrence of the Lords Commissioners to reply to the company's letter of the 9th instant that His Majesty's Government see no objection to the exports of Gold in question taking place provided they are consigned to the Netherlands Oversea Trust, that the consent of the Trust to accept the consigument is received before shipment is actually made and that the Hongkong Government sanction the export from the Colony.
