Sir:-
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to acknow-
mer ledge the receipt of your letter No. 4933 of the 9th
instant relative to the policy to be followed in the
liquidation of German firms in Hongkong and the Straits
Settlements.
Sir E. Grey concurs in the opinion expressed by
the Secretary of State for the Colonies that the time
has now come to consider the alteration of the policy
which has been previously followed in this question
and in his proposal that an interdepartmental conference
should be held on the subject.
A member of this Department will be appointed to
attend such a conference at any time or date which may
be convenient to the Colonial Office.
