American citizen of over twenty (30) years standing and
has made an oath that all goods purchased by him since
June 29th last through his agent Ernst Lund, at Canton,
have been purchased with bis own means and credit and
have always been sold to, and paid for, by American
merchants in New York; that no one except himself has any
interests directly or indirectly in the said business or is
entitled to any share of the profits of the proceeds
therefrom, and that the firm of Siemsson and Company whom
he previously represented is neither directly or indirectly
interested in the said business or in the said purchases.
The Department of State further sets forth in the
above mentioned cablegram that there appears to be a shortage
of the goods in question in the United States at the present
moment due to the discontinuance of transportation service
by the Pacific Mail Company and the requisitioning by His
Majesty's Authorities of British Trans-Pacific vessels, and
