Sir:-

I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to

transmit herewith copy of a telegram which has

been sent to His Majesty's Minister at Peking re-

garding the China (Companies) Order in Council.

I am to enquire whether Mr. Secretary Bonar

Law approves of the date proposed in this tele- gram for the coming into force of the Order in

Council and, if so, whether he will make the nec-

essary arrangements for the passing of the Com-

panies' Ordinance of the Colony of Hong Kong.

I am to add that this Department is in commu-

nication with the Treasury regarding the financial

arrangements in connection with the establishment

of the Registry of Companies at Shanghai, and a re-

ply will be sent to your letter of September 22nd

last on that subject as soon as the Lords Commis-

sioners have answered the application made to them

by this Office.
