WAR TRADE DEPARTMENT,

4. CENTRAL BUILDINGS,

WESTMINSTER, S.W.

30th September, 1915.

15

sir,

1

With reference to your letters of September

14th, No.127588 and September 18th, No.131845, I

am instructed by the Director of the War Trade

Department to state that no objection is seen by

this Department to the suggestion made by the

Board of Customs and Excise in the 3rd paragraph of

their letter of the 7th September. The suggestions

contained in that letter have to some extent been

modified by the recent issue of the China White List,

but pending the inclusion of the native firms hither-

to supplied with drugs and similar commodities from

this country the licences for such goods will be made

out in the name of a British firm on account of the

Chinese native purchaser.

I am to request that in due course this Depart -

ment may be furnished with a list of the firms

hitherto supplied by Messrs. Evans Sons Lescher and

Webb. Similar lists will be obtained by this

Department in the case of other chemists.

I have, &c.,

The Under Secretary of State,

&c., &c., &c..

Foreign Office.

(Signed)

N. J. Highmore.
