Persia. There is, however, very little object in
discussing the terms of peace if, as Father thinks,
the war can last for years. I should like to express
by opinion, viz. that there will be a cessation of
hostilities with France and with Russia this year.
It will not be so easy to settle up with England
unless we can maintain an effective blockade with
Submarines, which does not seem too easy. Two things
I should like to know; where is the Karlsruhe, and why
are our submarines not active in the English Channel to prevent the English reinforcements reaching Flanders? The Albatross history is difficult to
understand from the Swedish reports; has one under-
estimated the Russian Naval strength? Reuter states, categorically, that the Deutschland was torpedoed,
but as this has not been mentioned in the German
newspapers it is possibly untrue."
