acknowledge the receipt of your letter 47116/15 of
the 14th instant, with enclosures relative to the
refusal of the Homeward, Japan, China and Straits
Conference of Steamship Lines to carry cargo for
Messrs. W. A, Hamibal and Company of Hong Kong.
A copy of Foreign Office letter 130737/15 of
the 17th ultimo to Mr. Richard D. Holt of the Ocean
Steamship Company Limited, referred to in Mr.
Mortleman's letter enclosed in your communication
under reply, is transmitted to you herewith, for
the information of the Secretary of State for the
Colonies.
Sir E. Grey is prepared, on the understanding
that Mr. Hannibal has severed all connection with
Wendt and Company and is taking steps to change his
agent in Canton, to withdraw his objections to the
carrying of cargo for Mr. Hannibal as expressed in
Foreign Office letter to Mr. Holt referred to above,
I am to suggest that you should inform the
Conference Lines to this effect.
