RECO
(REGE 16 OCT 15
507
According to a report received at this office from a reliable source the transference of the Ger- man civilian prisoners from Hongkong to Thursday Island is contemplated if indeed it has not already
been caried out.
The Foreign Office would be grateful to the United States Embassy if the American Embassy in London were requested to ask the British Government for a statement as to whether this report corres- ponds to the facts. If that be the case it is fur- ther requested that definite information may be obtained in a suitable manner as to the question how the prisoners are lodged and treated on that island as also what provision is made to protect them from the unhealthy influence of the local cli-
mate.
The Foreign Office will be grateful to the Em- bassy for a reply as early as possible as to the result of the steps taken in this matter.
