Sir,

this considerably sooner than we should be able to.

course of conversation with the Banque de l'Indo Chine through

whom the drafts for these goods are negotiated, they informed

us that they thought that in the event of these goods being

unable to be sent forward to their original destination some

+

arrangement might be come to with your goodselves for the

goods to be forwarded to London, where they could be taken

over by the original purchasers, or yourselves against the

original drafts. Their assumption being that the goods would

be deteriorating in Padang, and as they would have a claim for

any shortage, it would be in the interests of all parties to

get them moved as soon as possible. We should therefore be

obliged if, in the event of your not being able to obtain the

Government's permission to forward these goods to Genoa as

intended, you will give this suggestion your careful con-

sideration and advise forthwith by cable if possible.

Trusting that the position will now be clear to you,

We are, etc.,

Per Pro DODWELL & COMPANY LIMITED.

Referring to your letter of the 24th ulto., we

should be much obliged if you would kindly advise us

on what grounds you anticipate there will be difficulty

in obtaining permission for the forwarding the "Kleist"

cargo.

We ask for this information because we are in

receipt of a telegram from Kesara. Arnhold, Karberg & Co.,

London, reading "Have you received permission Attorney

General forwarding Genos hundred bales waste silk and

two hundred and sixty eight cocoons ex Kleist. Wire.

Karberg." We have not yet replied to this cable and

would be obliged if you will favour us with your reply

at your earliest convenience so that we can put the

matter before Messrs. Arnhold, Karberg & Co. London, áð

clearly as possible.

We thank you for the suggestion that permission for

the "Silesia" cargo should be obtained without waiting

for the question of the "Kleist" and we shall be obliged

if you will do so. The value of this cargo is however
