With reference to your letter 35771 of the 12th
ultimo, respecting the rumours of the existence of a
German State-aided financial trust behind certain German
firma in Hong Kong, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey
to transmit to you herewith a copy of a despatch from
His Majesty's Minister in Peking, enclosing a copy of a
letter on this subject received by him from the Governor
of Hong Kong.
I am to enquire whether Mr. Secretary Bonar Law
sees any objection to the confidential communication by
this Department to the China Association of a copy of
Sir F. May's letter, omitting the fourth paragraph.
