With reference to the letter from this Department
of the 25th. of Hay last respecting the appeal of the
Sepoy Ibrahim to the Judicial Committee of the Privy
Council, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to
truzionit to you herewith copy of a letter from Heparo.
Langlois Warren Harding and Tate in regard to the
costs of the Appellant. This letter has now been care-
fully considered and Sir E. Grey is advised that it is
clearly a case in which some allowance might be made to
the solicitors in connexion with the Appellant's case
and he feels that in such appeals to the Judicial
Committee, involving difficult and delicate questions
which are constantly liable to arise in remote parts
where is Majesty exercises jurisdiction, it is very
desirable that His Majesty's Government should be able
to hold out to solicitors, if they are asked to take
up a pauper case, some hope of at least recouping them-
selves for their out-of-pocket expenses and clerical
