venient place in the offices of the administrat ion, and with as many junction circuits as may be necessary between such exchange and the main exchange. The control
of the whole system in this case rests with the main exchange, and proper supervision is thus ensured. On
⚫ public exchange small exchanges of this character are designated "Private Branch Exchanges".
4. From the papere sent to us we gather that

Departments are equipped with small switchboards, but it is not clear how these exchanges inter-communicate, or whether they centre upon any central exchange.
