Sir,
I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the
Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, that they have received
an application from an employee of H.M. Dockyard, Hong Kong,
for an increase of pay, on the ground that there has been
a serious increase in the cost of living since the outbreak
of war.
2.
In order that they may be in a position to deal
with this application, My Lords would be obliged if they
could be informed whether during this period the cost of
living has increased to a greater or less extent at Hong
Kong than in England.
