In reply to your telegram of December 21st, Reiss and Company are dissatisfied with their position because whilst lending Cheetham the benefit of their neme; they are merely advising agents to him with no control over his actions. They have notified their principals in London that they insist upon a power of attorney for Hongkong generalise] control of simature for Sanders Rehdere end Company. They wish to resin agency if this general control is not conceded. Their reason is that in the eyes of Chinese public in Canton and here they and not Cheetham are the responsible agents and may be held responsible for mistakes made. They inform me that Mr. Doulas Travelling Inspector (?) Texas Oil Company lately here has recommended his principale to terminate their connection with (?) Sanders and to appoint as their agents Reiss. This recommendation has been made of his own initiative and not in any way et Reiss' instance. Reiss are satisfied to retain Cheetham and his elimination by me would not help matters, unless it would help you to bring pressure on Sanders to grent Reiss terms which are reasonable from the business point of view.
