When the financial position of the

Colony has so improved as to warrant

it, I shall be prepared to consider the

resumption of this expenditure, at

any rate so far as concerned the

withdrawal of subsidiary coins paid

in to the Government.

It is obvious however that

measures must be taken on the revenue

side to restore the balance, and for

this reason in my telegram referred

to above I stated that additional taxation

appeared to be inevitable. I shall be

glad to learn at an early date what

measures you proposed to adopt in

this direction.

requesting you to convey to Mr.

D. Jaffé an expression of my appreciation

of his expeditious work in connection

with the Typhoon Refuge.
