when owing to the
persecution he was subjected to by Sir Franois Piggott who conceived an extraordijnry dimliko for a man who
has always been, and still is,respected and liked by
all other residents, he left the colony not to return
till 1913 by which time Sir Francis Piggott had retired.
During his absence from the colony Mr. Sharp practised at the Bar in London with success and by the irony of fate
was instrumental in winning two or three appeals from the- judgments of Sir Francis Piggott to the Privy
Council.
Mr. Sharp acted as Attorney General for two months
in 1903 and from October 1904 till may 1905. waring the latter period he had to advise this Government
in many
difficult questions arising out of the Russo-
Japanese var, I was colonial Secretary at the time
and I know that Sir Matthew Nathan appreciated in the Lignest degree the ability and acumen with which Kr
Sharp advised the Government in his capacity of
Attorney General.
On my own behalf I have no hesitation in saying that
in my judgment Kräharp is the ablest man outside of
the Government Service in the Colony. I would ratner
have his opinion on almost any subject task that
of any other man here outside official circles
He is,
NOTCOTEr a man of very independent onaracter
and I consider that the Executive Council would be
fortunate in having his advice at its service.
