With reference to your despatch No 199 of the 19th June, 1895, I have the honour to transmit to you a copy of a letter which has ben addressed to me by
Mr. H.E. Wodehouse in which he asks that he may be
allowed precedence of the newly-appointed Treasurer
in the Executive Council.
2. Mr. Wodehouse's request:appears to be reas
onable and I take this opportunity of informing you with reference to Clause IV of the Royal Instructions
of the 19th January 1888, that the Queen has been pleased to assign to the Treasurer for the time being and the other Public Officers whose offices are not mentioned in Clause III of these Instructions, precedence in the Executive Council inter se according to the priority of their respective appointments next after the Attorney- General or the Senior Military officer if below the rank of Lieut.-Colonel and before the Unofficial Members.
2. I have also to inform you, with reference to Clause III of the Additional Royal Instructions of the 7th July last that the Queen has also been pleased to assign to the Treasurer for the time being and the official Members whose offices are not mentioned in the preceding clause precedence in their Legislative Council inter se after the Attorney General or the Senior Military Officers if below the rank of Lieut- Colonel according to the priority of their respective
appointments.
