Mr. Tang Lin Sing
I learn with happiness from your letter that you have safely arrived in your destination. There is not much risk work here, and I find much difficulty in earning my livelihood. h Local Committee was appointed on the 24th. April to open roads, and I had work for over a month, but this work has now been discontinu- -ed. A land tax has been introduced, which is also applied to my district, and I paid 55.85 for my land. The trouble as regards my land has been settled much to the disgrace of my adopted son and to the gratification and happiness of every-body. In the present war the British colonies suffer very much; inmy district several hundred volunteers have been recruited in four different occasions toge to the front, and those who have wives and children locka very pitiable. Germany has made great progress in the war and no nation on the earth has been able to stand against her, and the newspaper enclosed will show you all. I should be glad of your information as to how my family is going on. My business here can only covers my monthly expenses, but it yields me no great profit. Owing to the European war business is very dull here, and the Government prohibits any sale (7) of land and payment of interest. If you desire to sell (?) your land, you must know you have to wait until the Government withdraws the prohibition next year by a notification. I have nothing more to mention, but if my news later, I will write you again. With regards,
(Sd.) Chan Po Wa.
