Council.

·

His Excellency the Governor referred to the death of the late Mr. E. A. Hewett, which had occurred with such tragic suddenness. Mr. Hewett had for many years taken a leading part in the public life of the Colony both as a member of the Executive and Legislative Councils, as a representative on various Boards and Committees and as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. He had been an indefatigable worker and it could be said of him, as it could be said of few men only, that he had in all things acted upon honest conviction, considering no interest beyond the public good. His Excellency was sure that the member of the Council would wish to record in the minutes an expression of their regret and their appreciation.
