sir,

In reply to your letter No.3493/15 of the 11th

September, 1915, I am directed to inform you that it is hardly

correct to say that this Government has seized a shipment of

rice from Markwald and Company's Mill at Bangkok.

2.

Under the Trading with the Enemy China Siam

Persia and Morocco Proclamation 1915, trading with any firms

in Siam is now prohibited, and goods from such firms are not

allowed to enter the Colony.

3.

In one instance in which rice from an enemy

source was shipped recently to Singapore, the consignees were

refused delivery, but were informed that they might, if they

the so wished, ship it back to Bangkok. This is, no doubt,

case referred to by you,
