REC! RES 10 DEC 15
Hongkong, September 29,

The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary,

Sir,
0
Hongkong.
I have the honour to invite your attention to the
contents of an urgent telegram from our Consul-General at Canton
stating that the Nippon Yusen Kaisha says that the Hongkong Govern- -ment will not allow a shipment of J. Kahl's cargo destined per 3. S. "Yokohama Maru" for the United States. The telegram informs
this office that J. Kahl and Company is an American firm and has
been acknowledged as such by the State Department by telegraphic
authority.
The cargo shipped Monday by the S. S. "Charles Hardouin" consisted of 637 rolls of matting and 2,000 packages of
casia. The day before the S. S. "Paul Beau" brought from Canton
shipped by the same firm 1,500 pækages of cassia.
As a delay in the shipment of these goods will incur
a serious loss I can only request your earliest consideration.
I have etc.,
(Ed.) A. E. Carleton,
Vice-Consul in charge.
