Re Thakur Singh.
Charge. That you wrote a letter containing seditious matter addres -ged to B. S. Jakh, i.e. Bhagwan Singh.
Statement.
Thakur Singh son of Sher Singh of Ikolata village, Lud-
-hiana, 29 years of age, wife in Hongkong and two sons 11 and 4 years of age in Ikolata.
(Shewn the letter) I acknowledge that the letter was written by me. I know Bhagwan Singh, Nimak Harami is my own name. I
wrote the letter for someone else. I wrote what he told me to write.
I am not sure of his name, he said it was Arya Daɛɛ, he was a
Bengali, he said he wanted the address of Bhagwan Singh, he could
not write in Urdu or Gurmakhi so he asked me to write, I did not
mention him in the letter. Bhagwan Singh knows my writing. He only stayed about four or five hours in Canton.
(Asked to make any statement he wishes).
Last year I got 6 months leave on account of my brother':
death; my wife and my father insisted on my returning home. I re- -turned home and stayed there about four months. On the way from
Calcutta to Ludhiana I was searched twice and a third time at my
home. If I had anything in my possession it would have been found
by the Police. If I had any bad ideas against the Government,
during the four months they would have found it out. Again if I had
done anything against the Goverment, how would I have been given
permission by the Government of the Punjaub to return to China ? It
is true that I have done nothing against the Government, while I was at home. At the time of the Delhi Durbar, at my own expense, I
sent a telegraphic message of welcome to His Majesty. In the same year, there was a meeting in the British Concession at Shameen. I subscribed 10 towards the expenses. If I had any bad ideas or feeling against His Majesty, why should I have been sent such a telegram or subscribed 10 ?. Last year I got many newspapers, I handed over the Gadhr newspapers to Mr. Grove to be sent back to the Hongkong Government. I also sent a notice to the Post Office
