Adelaide.

Sanction has been given for the

construction of an additional 800 ft. of wharf at Port Ade- laide(Outer Harbour) dredged to 83 ft. (L.W.0.8.T.}, This work is estimated to cost

176,0001.

Brisbane.

▲ scheme for a large basin to bo excavated behind the Hamilton training wall, about 3 to 4 miles from the Custom House in Bristane, together with a river quay capable of taking 50 vessela of 500 ft. long or * proportionate uniber of larger and smaller vessels has been prepared and in being proceeded with. The cost will approach 1,500,0001, to be spread over a number of years ns the accommodation is required. It can be also further ex- tended At & subsequent period. The basin can be excavated to any required depth; 28 ft. (L.W.O.S.T.) is proposed in first instance. The river below the basin will be developed to corre spond in depth. It is con- sidered that if 30 ft. (L.W.O.S.T.) is obtained throughout the river during the next ten years all re- quirements will be met. With 35 ft, in the barthage, and 30 ft. in channel vessels drawing up to 34 feet can be accommo- dated. The basin will be able to take vessels 1,000 ft.

Fremantle.

The present intention is

deepen the entrance channel' and harbour to

depth 36 ft. below lowest low water. Hobart.

The port's capacity is almost unlimited. It is well sheltered and approachable by ships of 40 ft. draught at any state of the tide at all weathers.

AUSTRALIA.

Melbourne.

Dredging operations are in progress to provide 33 ft. (L.W.0.8.T)" at the Railway Pier. Port Melbourne, for a length of 1,500 ft.

Bydney.

A scheme laid down by the Harbour Commissioners embraces the remodel- ling of Darling Harbour, and an exten- sive wharfage scheme in Johnston's, Blackwattle, and Rozelle Bays, which are in the heart of the extending city. The whole scheme will probably take 10 years to complete and is estimated to cost 8,500,000 The new wharf froutage, when completed, will be about 41,600 ft.
