Referring to the correspondence ending with

Goo7 588/13 your Confidential Despatch of the 8th. of February, 1913, and in continuation of my Despatch No. 204 of the 11th. of June, 1914, I have the honour to inform you that having with your approval provid -ed for the free housing of the largest class of European subordin- -ate Officers outside the Police Force viz.;- Overseers in the Public Works Departament, Sanitary Inspectors, and Revenue Officers, and for the provision of quarters at low rentals for married European Officers with salaries not exceeding £450 per annum who receive no house allowances or duty pay and who have little pros- -pect of promotion to higher posts in the Service, I now desire to recommend for your favourable consideration the grant of house allowances to married European officers not in the two categories already dealt with and who have not the privilege of free or rented

quarters.
