The routine work is very simple and an intelli-

-gent person could learn it in the Registry in Hongkong in a week.

Questions of Company Law could be referred by the Registrar in Shanghai, if unable to arrive at a decision locally, to the 108 Registrar at Hongkong. It was therefore considered that probably arrangements could be made for the performance of the work by some- -one of the staff at His Majesty's Consulate-General, and as it is obvious that the whole time of one officer cannot be occupied by the

vark the grant in aid suggested by this Government seemed not un-

-reasonable.

Sir Havilland de Saumarez is expected here in

a few days and I propose to ask him to discuss the matter with the Registrar of Companies with a view to arriving at a proposed

arrangement which I will then submit to you.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Arna

Governor,&c.
