With reference to Your Excellency's letter of the 18th. March, 1915, No. 562/1915, relative to Admiralty W.T.Station at Stonecutters, I have the honour to inform you that it is consider- -ed it would be more satisfactory if the Telegraph Companies main- -tained their om telegraphic com.unication with Stonecutters Island W.T. Station. This would avoid divided responsibility. Taking into consideration the business this Station will bring to the Telegraph Companies it is thought that they should be prepared to instal and maintain the telegraphic connection at £

their own cost.

2 In the event of any charge against the Admiralty for such telegraphic connection being proposed I would be glad to be informed for Their Lordship's information. Should such charge be greater than the expenditure which the Naval Authorities would incur in installing and maintaining a telegraph line between the Telegraph Company's Office and Stonecutters the Admiralty may pre- -fer to lay and maintain the line. It would, however, be better if the responsibility for supplying and maintaining efficient tele- -graphic com.mication right up to the W. T. Station could be fixed on the Telegraph Companies as part of their own system.

If Your Excellency concurs in these proposals it is suggested that the negotiations with the Telegraph Companies shall
