REG. 9 JUL 151

GEORGE WILLIAM AVENELL, examined. Armourer Sergeant, Central

Police Station. I received the pistol produced (ex. B) from the

Deputy Superintendent of Police on the 11th. August. It was defective. The hammer would fall down by any heavy pressure on itself. It is a Webley-Scott Pistol. The hammer would come down

when the catch is at safe. No ordinary pressure should bring the

hammer down. I have since cleaned and put the pistol in repair. It is now in good working order. In repairing it I altered the shape of the hammer slightly. That defect might have been the result of continued snapping of the pistol. The bullet (ex. A) fits the ammunition for this pistol (ex. B). The marks on the bullet correspond with the rifling of the barrel. I have not discovered any defect in the mechanism of these pistols before. I have only had to repair side grips and in one case the side lever i.e.

previously to the present case.

(sd.) G. W. Avenell,

St. Armourer.
