As regards Colum II all these men drew the extras which were abolished in 1913, this chiefly affected the Inspectors at Shau Ki-wan and Aberdeen and the Sergeants and Lance-Sergeants in charge of New Territories Stations and Stanley. Very few men retire as Constables, most as Inspectors and Sergeants.
These figures show that practically in all cases leave pay is very considerably reduced, especially in the case of Inspectors, also that the pensions of Inspectors have been considerably reduced whilst those of Sergeants have been somewhat increased.

By the above comparison the pensions of the Hongkong Police do not appear so good as those in the Metropolitan Police. The Hongkong pension is increased by length of extra service, while the home pension is a fixed proportion. The chance in Hongkong of a constable
to rise to higher ranks is considerably greater than at home. The
petitioners state that in the Metropolitan Police Force about 72% are
constables, 20% are sergeants and 8% inspectors. Taking these figures
