REGT 23 15

Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 19th. May, 1915.

18950

In continuation of my Confidential Despatch of

the 24th. February, 1915, I have the honour to report that evidence

has been produced which shows that Mr. Hakon Schluter is untrust- -worthy in consequence of which I have refused him the hospitality

of the Colony.

2.

Mr. Schluter is a resident of Canton but has

been in the habit of visiting Hongkong periodically and you will no

doubt recollect that he was proposed by Messrs. Sanders Rehders and

Company to act as their Agent in Hongkong, but that I recommended that Mr. Humphrey Cheetham should be appointed. From evidence ob- -tained it now appears that Mr. Cheetham is merely a figure head for Mr. Schluter and it is possible that I shall have to make

further recommendations with a view to his agency being placed in

other hands.

RIGHT HONOURABLE

LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P.

Your most obedient,

humble servant,
