Having been given to understand that my salary will be

increased to $2040 from January 1915, I beg respectfully to

tender the Government my grateful thanks for having so con-

siderately acceded to our representations in granting us the

same rates of pay as the clerks. At the same time, however,

I feel constrained to draw your attention to the different

treatment of Interpreters and Translators from that of the

clerical staff, so far as these increments of salaries are

concerned, although these rises were petitioned for jointly

by clerks and the members in the Interpretation sub-depart-

ment.

For the purpose of laying the facts clearly before you,

I venture to submit the following table of comparison for

your consideration:-
