Interpreters and Translators can always undertake clerical

duties, while clerks can-not become efficient interpreters

or translatore without special study and training. I may

mention that while I was First Interpreter in the office of

the Registrar General (now S. C. A.) I acted as Firet clerk

there for several months on the retirement of Mr. Bullin and

that I keep many books of accounts in the Supreme Court.

The increases of salaries were granted to the Clerks of

the 3 above-mentioned grades last year because of the enhanc-

ed cost of living, which, however, affects equally Civil

Servants of the same grades whether they are Clerks, Inter-

preters or translators, and I respectfully submit that the

necessity for an increment of salary equally exists in the

case of interpreters and translators.

I have the honour to be.

sir,

"

Your obedient servant,

Sd. Wong Kwong Tin.
