The Humble Petition of the Undersigned,
members of the Interpretation Sub-
Department in the Civil Service of
Hongkong.
Respectfully sheweth:-
Your Petitioners are respectively the Second
Interpreter to the Courts of Justice, the Clerk and Transla-
tor in the same Department and the Translator in the
Secretariat for Chinese Affairs.
2. In March, 1912, your petitioners in conjunction
with the Clerical Branch of the Civil Service of Hongkong
submitted a joint petition to His Excellency the Governor
of Hongkong praying for a general increase of salaries on
the ground of the continuous increase in the cost of liv-
ing in the Colony. In April, 1913, the Clerks of the Higher,
1st and 2nd Grades were granted, with effect from 1st Janu-
ary of the same year, the following new scales of salaries,
previous service in the same grade being allowed to count
for increments:-
