GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 20th. April,

1915.

4023

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram of the 12th. April, relative to Dr. Sun Yat-sen's appeal on behalf of Hung Chiu-lin, and to confirm my telegram of

7 tia

the 15th. April, sent in reply. En clair versions of these tele- -grams, both of which have been repeated to His Majesty's Minister

at Peking, are enclosed.

2.

The man Hung Chiu-lin is a well-known revoluti-

-onary and it will probably transpire that the crimes he is charged with were committed in the course of one of those filibus-

-tering attacks upon law and order in the Kwangtung Province which

Dr. Sun Yat-sen has for years past been active in fostering. I am informing Sir John Jordan to this effect.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,
