In continuation of paragraph 5 of my Secret
Despatch of the 26th. of November, I have the honour to inform you that I have accepted a generous offer by Ir. Un Kali-wa, a well known Chinese resident, who has subscribed 3,000 and has raised 21,000 more among a few of his friends for the object in view, to supply simple uniforms for the Chinese Contingent of the Special Police Reserve. The members of this contingent are very anxious to wear uniform when on duty, in order to be readily distinguished from the Chinese population. Ir. Un Kan-ws and his friends are prepared to defray the recurrent cost of maintaining these
uniforms.

As soon as funds permit I shall make a recommendation for the supply of uniform to the other contingents. It would undoubtedly be of advantage for the members to wear a distinctive dress and my only reason in not recommending it was
desire of econoly.

This force now numbers 250 composed of 52 Europeans, 24 Indions, 98 Portuguese and 76 Chinese. All these
are British subjects.
Yesterday I made my first inspection of the force. There were 250 on parode and I was extremely pleased with
