No. 1272/U.P.
Sir,
Postal Commissioner's Office,
Post Office, Shanghai,
8th. April, 1914.
I have the honour to inform you that a Contract has been concluded between this Administration and the Austrian Lloyd for the carriage of mails from China, and that stemmers of this Company may be availed of in future for the transport of Chinese Post Office maile from Hongkong. As this office will account for all mails t us forwarded, no payments for carriage of mails may be made by the Hongkong Office on behalf of the Chinese Service.
I beg further to draw your attention to the fact that according to the new agreement the Company widertakes to accept mails in China exclusively from a Chinese Post Office, and
the that in case of mails forwarded by British Post Offices in China, such maila would have therefore to be forwarded through the intermediary of the Chinese Service.
The Postmaster-General.
I have etc., (Sd.) C. Rousse,
Postal Commissioner.
