CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A TWO INCH ASPHALTIC

CONCRETE SURFACE.

WE, the STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF NEW YORK, hereby agree to lay

r the Hongkong Government, on the Island of Hongkong or the Peninsula Kowloon, under the following conditions:-

That the foundation of the road shall be built by the Hongkong overnment and this foundation shall be of such construction that during period of three years it will withstand weathering conditions without isplacement and carry safely the heaviest loads to which it will be ubjected.

That WE, the STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF EW YORK, hereby agree to lay pon this foundation a two inch asphaltic concrete surface and maintain ame for a period of three years for the sum of Two Dollars Mexican per quare yard. At this price the Hongkong Government shall furnish free o the Standard Oil Company all stone, sand and filler (the latter jay be either limestone dust or cement) of such a nature that these Ingredients will meet our specification, a copy of which is attached to This contract.

The HONGKONG GOVERNMENT shall furnish all labour and road machinery and re-model slightly their mixing plant located in the City of Victoria on the water front between Taikoo Sugar Factory and Belle View Hotel, so that this plant may be used in mixing asphaltum. The change required will mean only a small expense and will consist in lengthening the present heating drum and installing a pug mixer. The Standard Oil Company will furnish all mechanical drawings necessary for making these changes. The HONGKONG GOVERNMENT shall also supply means of transport-

ing the material from the plant to the road in a rapid manner to prevent cooling in transit and at a minimum rate of seventy cubic yards per day of ten hours. The vehicle used in carrying this material shall bavə a minimum capacity of one and a half cubic yards and shall not require over one hour to carry the asphaltic mixture from the mixdere mixing plant to the road where it is to be applied.
