On the supposition that the scheme for salaries of

dressers, &c. in the Straits Settlements is adopted it is estimated

that we should start with 8 dressers.

2. This is deried from the requirements for dressers for an

average of 60 male patients in Civil Hospital and an average 18 male

patients in the Kowloon Hospital.

The salary of a dresser would begin at 2300 a year with an

annual increment of 360 for the first six years.

5. An examination embracing the subjects which are at present

taught to Nurse Probationers should be passed every year during the

first 3 years, the training for which will be as follows, and will

be given by the medical staff of the hospital and the nursing staff:

1st year.

Elementary Anatomy.

Physiology.

Practical Nursing. Bandaging.

2nd year.

Practical Nursing.

Elementary Surgery in relation to nursing.

Hementary medicine in relatin to nursing.

3rd year.

Practical Nursing.

Lectures on special subjects, e.g. Malarial

Fevers, Plague, Enteric, ào.

For the next 3 years the "Probationer dressers would

cmtinue to receive training in practical nursing from the Sisters

of the wards and to receive more advanced lectures from the medical

officers on the foregoing subjects.

7. This would bring their period of service to 6 years, on the completion of which a final examination on all of their past

work is to be passed before the dressers are put on the permanent

staff, if considered satisfactory in all other respecte.
