With reference to my confidential despatch of
the 1st of May, 1914, I have the honour to inform you that His
Britannic Lajesty's Consul-General at Canton has now reported
that the six persons arrested in Hongkong for complicity in the
piracy of the S.S."Childar", and subsequently extradited to China, were duly tried by the Chinese Authorities at Canton in the presence of an officer of His Britanic Najesty's Consulate¦ -General, and convicted; and executed on the 14th instant in !
the presence of another Consular officer, with the exception of one of the convicts who died in prison in the interval between
the conclusion of the trial and the execution.
The trial of the seven other accused mentioned
in my despatch under reference has not been concluded.
