Government House,

Hongkong, 13th January, 1915.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th December on the subject of the S.S."Phra- neng for which I am much obliged.

2.

I am informed that the Company is the registered owner of the vessel. An application was made in December 1912 for the registration of the vessel and in accordance with the "Instructions to Registrars of Shipping" the declaration of owner- ship on behalf of a body corporate must be ade by an individual "authorised for that purpose under the seal of the Corporation". This was done inthe case of the S.S."Phrenang".

3.

The insertion of r. Bune's name in the ship's papers (that is in the "Articles" and Agreement between the Master and Crew, under Section 113 of the Lerchant Shipping Act, 1894) as the registered Managing Owner, was due to an error made by a Clerk in the Mercantile Larine Office here, and steps will be taken to have this corrected.

4.

Mr. Bune is now interned at Hongkong, and during the management of the Company by liquidators on his behalf, the vessel has been managed by Lessrs. Carmichael and Clark. It seent likely that the Company will continue to employ lessrs.Carmichael

and Clark for this purpose.

sd.

I have, etc.

Covernor, LC.

Sir Everard Fraser, K.C.M.G.,
