With reference to my despatches of the 7th

November, 1914, I have the honour to report that on the 22nd
December a sum of £17,000 sterling was remitted direct through the
Hongkong and Shanghai Bank for the credit of the Prince of Wales Fund. The sun comprises (175,384.28 in donations and (6,079.12 in monthly subscriptions,and constitutes a first payment on account of the subscriptions from the Community
nity of Hongkong, sport frou the sum of $100.000 (£8.437.10.0d) voted by the Legislative Council of the Colony, and acknowledged in your telegram of 3rd
48262/14 December, 1914, and subsequently by the Treasurer to is Royal
end Highness the Prince of Wales.

The latter will, it is estimated, continue to amount to about
£7,500 per month until the termination of the war, while the list
of donations is also still growing.

In these sums are included subscriptions from out-
ports and passengers, and ships officers and crews, although
no special effort was made by the Committee to go outside the
limits of the Colony. It was felt that it would be better to leave
every centre to make its own effort: but subscribers from some
