With respect to the decision of Mr Secretary

Harcourt contained in clause 3, of your letter of the

"

3rd April, whereby "I was not called upon to refund

the difference between full and half salary for the

period between the expiration of my vacation leave and

the date of Dr. Daniels' report viz: the 5th March.

I would point out that the rate of pay on

this basis works out to about one fourth (th) less

than the amount of my ordinary remuneration. Fur-

ther, it is the custom in a private business to pay

time and half for continuous overtime work, and double

pay for Sunday work, whereas the time I stated (vide

my letter of the 30th January last, enclosure "D")

actually represented extra work of a most trying nat-

ure, over and above office hours, up to midnight and

later, and it will be noted that a large proportion of

the time was Sunday labour!

I note in clause 4, of your letter of the 3rd

April that a copy of my letter of the 20th March was

sent to the Governor, but I have not received any reply

to the statements I made.

6. As regards your letter of the 24th April, No.

14473/1914, clause 3, wherein I was informed "that the

fact I was invalided from the service cannot be regard-

ed as constituting any claim to exceptional treatment

as regards either salary or pension."
