The only reply I received was on the 28th of July when I was informed by the D. P. W. that I could have six weeks' leave as soon as he reported that I could temporarily be spared. My health continued to get worse, and on the 13th of August I again saw Dr. Lobb, who certi- fied that I was then in a condition of extreme debility, that I was quite unfit for duty, and that further stay in the Colony was not only inadvisable but even dangerous in view of my then state of health. I then wrote direct to

the Colonial Secretary sending my letter through the D. P. W. and explaining the circumstances.

On the 21st August I was requested to attend at the P.C.M.0's Office for the purpose of being

examined by a Medical Board. I was examined by

the Board on the 25th of August and was then

informed by the Board that the state of my health rendered it imperative for me to leave

the Colony, and three days after I received the

necessary leave.

In accordance with instructions that I

subsequently received I attended at the office

of Dr. Daniels of Harley Street, London, on my

return to England and he reported that in his.

opinion I was not fit for further service in

the tropics, and I was therefore called upon

to retire.
