It is however also provided by the minute of 1895 that in computing a pension of a Professionally qualified Officer the additions in the Schedule mentioned may be made to his period of service, and, according to the schedule, the number of years to be added to the period of service in such cases is as follows:-
For the first class
5 years.

As I am comprised in the third class mentioned
in the Schedule I submit that I am entitled to an addi-
tion of two years' service, which makes the
pension
to which I am entitled amount to £220. 10.0 per annum

It is further provided by the said minute that
it shall be lawful for the Secretary of State for the
Colonies, in cases in which special services have been
rendered altogether in excess of and beyond the usual
scope of those which the Officer was paid to perform,
to sanction the grant of pensions at higher rates and
on more favourable conditions than those authorised by
the Minute, provided that such pension shall not exceed
two thirds of the highest salary drawn by such Officer.
As I have already pointed out to you I had to perform
very many such services beyond the usual scope of my
duties, and I enumerate them below:-
