I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter

of the 3rd inst. and, I desire to point out that, I am

only retiring in consequence of the breakdown of my

health, and in accordance with the wish expressed by

Mr. Secretary Harcourt.

2.

In my letter to you of the 20th ulto. I

offered to retire as from the 29th May when my term

of leave will expire, and I stated that I did not

think that I should be required to retire earlier.

Under the above circumstances I respect-

fully submit that I an entitled to my full pay to

the 29th May.

It will of course be understood that the

receipt by me of any cheque for pay must not be

treated as a waiver of any other claims I may have.

5.

I would further submit that I am entitled

to the most generous treatment, both as regards pay

and pension, as my health has been destroyed by Government service in the Tropics, and it is doubtful whether I shall be able to do work of any kind in the future, as my efficiency has been seriously impaired, further the best years of my professional life have
