I submit that the course first cited wa 8 the only one to adopt, having regard to the delay and possible further claim from the Contractors, Indeed,
I had no assistance whatever at that date, and as previously stated Mr. Little, the only assistant allott- ed to me was so disgusted with the way in which matters were conducted that he resigned from the Service, but as the work was in my charge and I realized that matters of importance were at stake, I remained loyal to duty having regard to the interests of the Government.
I would here state that less delay would have occurred had I been given the necessary assistance when asked for in February 1909, as I could then have continued revising and amending plans, and in many cases preparing fresh ones.
Clause 9.
I beg to point out that several other works that were in my charge during the period under review were not included in the published report. The esti- mated cost of which amounted to a sum of $270,000.00!
Clause 11.
(c) and (d). I have previously pointed
out in other files the need for a Quantity Surveying
Branch. Indeed, Mr. Jones (late 1st A.D.P.W.) also
wished to adopt such a course but nothing appears to
have resulted from the proposals made.
